  Kesimpulan dan Evaluasi

  Conclusion and Evaluation
  1. The objectives of KEN Grebeg Sudiro are to promote Surakarta City’s tourism potentials by showcasing a variety of artistic and cultural attractions by citizens of Sudiroprajan Town-district, to become a melting pot of collaboration and acculturation between Javanese and Chinese cultures, and to be a symbol of the local community’s harmony and tolerance.
  2. The event promotion, mainly via the social media, is considered adequate. This event has utilized its own social media channels, especially Instagram, since its prior launches. In addition, the promotion also adopts other social media outlets such as Youtube channels managed by the Surakarta Municipal Government as well as the Central Java Provincial Government. Other promotional media being used includes billboards stationed on 4 sites in Surakarta City, as well as online news websites.
  3. The event organizers have been communicative and active in prior communications pertaining event preparations.
  4. Event decorations, particularly in the Pasar Gede Market and Pepe River areas, are very attractive, lively, and rich in Chinese cultural traits. Decorations of the main stage, however, needs to be improved in the future; by adding Javanese and Chinese ornaments made from environmentally-friendly materials.
  5. The location of Pasar Gede Market in Sudiroprajan Town-district is highly representative to host this event, being one of Surakarta’s well-known centers of activity and gathering equipped with good accommodations, amenities, and accessibility/transportation. Pasar Gede has sufficient toilets and prayer facilities, but still lacks signage for them.
  6. The event is captivating and attracts a significant number of visitors, particularly during the Decorated Boats Tour on Pepe River and during the Cultural Carnival. This was evident when visitors remained enthusiastic in seeing and participating in the event despite the rain during the carnival.
  7. Event narratives in the future could be improved with the use of storynomics, so as to provide a distinct and interesting storyline, that could become a Unique Selling Point in tourist attraction.
  8. There is room for improvement in the crowd-control aspect, specifically during the Cultural Carnival that ran the risk of overcrowding as people were tussling for snack baskets. Traffic control also needs to be improved, in order to reduce gridlock around the event venues.
  9. Risk mitigation is adequate; with good availability of medical personnel, ambulances, firefighters, and a collaboration with the Police, Army, and security personnel. Additionally, stage performers and MCs during the main event frequently conveyed directives concerning safety and public hygiene to visitors and tourists. Nonetheless, more waste bins were required; especially during the Mini Stage event that posed the risk of leaving waste.
  10. The quality of event documentation by the organizers needs to be improved in the future.
  11. This event successfully contributes positive impacts on the economy and socio-cultural sectors of the Surakarta population; however, for future events the environmental sustainability issue needs to be addressed.
  12. In general, this event has been completed well and smoothly.
